Abstract:

A succession of outcrops in the region west of the town of Breznik has brought new biostratigraphic results concerning the Turonian Stage in the area. Integrated vertical distribution of ammonites, foraminifers, dinoflagellate cysts, pollen and spores is proposed for the first time in Bulgaria. This combined study enables the recognition of the three Turonian substages for the first time in the region. The lower and upper boundaries of the Middle Turonian and the upper Turonian boundary are defined by ammonites, elaborated with the data obtained from the other microfossil groups.
